Stephen Lowry
Dean and Rector
Stephen has served in ministry since he was a young teenager in Willowfield, Belfast. He first became a Christian when about 11 years of age, and renewed that commitment frequently over the years following. At school he sensed a desire “to make church work” and began a selection process which led ultimately to his ordination in 1985. Following service in St Patrick’s Coleraine (3 years) and Greenisland Parish (9 years), Stephen moved to Dromore Cathedral in June 1998.
Stephen believes ministry is a shared work for all believers and his role is to encourage and enable everyone called by God to serve in the church. Enjoying both contemporary and traditional forms of worship, and disliking anything in church life which glorifies an individual above others, by title, dress, seating and deference, he finds life in the Church of Ireland both exciting and frustrating at times.
“Dromore Cathedral is a wonderful people among which to minister: I only wish I was better at the things I find difficult, and more effective in the areas of ministry I enjoy. There is often great support in this church and they are a very understanding group! Thank God for them”
Trevor McKeown
Curate
Trevor took up his non-stipendary ministry in Dromore in 2004. Previously a member of Knocknamuckley Parish and still working in the Life Assurance business, Trevor serves regularly at the traditional services in the church. With a quiet and compassionate nature, Trevor is well liked by the congregation and he and Joy became valued members of church family very quickly following his ordination as Deacon in 2004 and Presbyter in 2005.
David Falconer
Cathedral Organist
David became Organist of the cathedral in 2004 following service as assistant organist in St Patrick’s Cathedral Armagh and organ scholar in St Bartholomew’s Dublin. His immense ability as both a teacher of the Choir and Cathedral Organist have raised the profile and importance of music in the cathedral’s life since his arrival. The Cathedral Organ is being rebuilt by Mr Trevor Crowe and should be operational just before the summer.
Charlie Sherwin
Verger
Charlie is the well known and well loved verger of the Cathedral. Since his appointment in 1987, his faithful guardianship of the cathedral property and steadfast support of the work of clergy and churchwardens have been the cause of much appreciation. Parishioners rely on Charlie for help in the management of the Cathedral Graveyard which he keeps tidy and well ordered. Always available to help out in any crisis, Charlie is greatly appreciated.
Jill Wylie
Office Secretary
Jill is the voice and ear of the Parish Office: working part time Jill helps to keep the wheels of the parish running smoothly with her gentle spirit at work in the office. She has been working on the staff for six years.
