SOMA (sō ma)
Soma is a singing group started in October 2018. The name is a Greek word which means ‘body’ and was used in the New Testament to mean the body of Christ, or the Church. Just as the body is made up of many parts, so is the singing group, with it all working together to make a great sound. Currently we have around 35 people on our register, 24 ladies and 11 men.
Who is it for?
Soma is for anyone of any age who enjoys singing. Some of our members can read music, but most do not, so we learn all our songs by listening to MP3 tracks or CD’s. We do not audition anyone and no experience is necessary. We generally have a lot of fun together!
When do we meet?
Normally we will meet fortnightly on the 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings of each month at 8.30pm for an hour in the Clayton Hall opposite the Church, but coming up to an event where we are singing it will be weekly. Our first practice will be on Thursday 12th September.
How do I get involved?
Just come along on a Thursday night and see how you like it. There is no pressure to stay but we would love to welcome new members. We are hosting an event on Saturday 21st September from 10am – 12.30pm in the Clayton Hall, when we will have a fun vocal workshop with Sylvia Burnside who is an accomplished soloist. It is open to anyone to come along and further details will be available in a few weeks.
