Dromore Cathedral History Reading Group

The Dromore Cathedral History Reading Group will meet again on Monday 5 August 2019 at 7.30 pm in The Clayton Hall.

The book for discussion at this meeting will be

Dynasty – The Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar by Tom Holland.

Dynasty is the portrait of the family that transformed Rome from a republic to an empire. The lurid glamour of the dynasty founded by Augustus Caesar has never faded.

For sheer unsettling fascination no other family can compare with its cast of leading characters – Augustus, the first emperor of Rome – Tiberius the great general who was transformed into a bitter recluse – Gaius Germanicus Caesar the master of cruelty, more commonly known by his derogatory nickname, Caligula (literally “Little Boots”) – Nero who built a pleasure palace over the fire gutted centre of Rome and his scheming mother, Agrippina

All are very welcome to join in what promises to be a very lively discussion about one of the greatest stories which history has to tell.

Snacks with a Roman theme will be provided.
