The second meeting of the Dromore Cathedral History Reading Group took place on 4th September when we debated the finer points of Dan Jones’s study on the Wars of the Roses. Traditional medieval delicacies ranging from oatcakes to cornbread to barley water were readily consumed as we discussed the weak rule of Henry VI, the gluttonous excesses of Edward IV, and Richard III’s seizure of the Crown in 1483. Afterwards, we all agreed that our next book would be The Hammer and the Cross: A New History of the Vikings by Robert Ferguson. This book will be the topic of our discussion at the next meeting on Monday 30th October 2017 at 7.30pm in the Clayton Hall. All are welcome to attend, discuss the book, and enjoy Viking-style food.
